Let's apply what you learned from the courses in the workplace!
PSY 300 Social Psychology

You just started a new job. Your knowledge of role theory, gained from PSY 300, would help you understand how to acclimate to your new environment and what types of behaviors are acceptable.

One of your closest co-workers tells you that he does not like the new employee in your department. You begin to harbor negative feelings about the new employee based on the opinions of your other colleague. With knowledge of the self-fulfilling prophecy you can avoid these preconceived notions and make assessments based on your own personal experiences.

PSY 305 Personality Psychology

You are asked to develop a personality test to be used when hiring new employees. You will be able to apply the theories you learned in PSY 305 in the creation of such a test. For instance, you can create a test covering the Big 5 personality traits if employers are specifically looking for people high in one or all of these traits (i.e., conscientiousness, extraversion). With your knowledge of the Big 5, your test can narrow potential candidates by finding the ones who fit the personality criteria for the business.

You find yourself becoming very stressed and overwhelmed in the workplace. With your knowledge of the personality theories learned in PSY 305, you know there are things you can do to lower your stress. For instance, your knowledge of emotional intelligence can help you identify what you are feeling and what you can do to regulate your stress. Moreover, you can share your knowledge with other employees who may be stressed out as well.

PSY 319 Psychology of Work

As a supervisor, you are evaluating job performance of your subordinates. Knowing common rating bias such as leniency, severity, and central tendency from PSY 319 helps you provide more accurate evaluation in performance appraisal.

You noticed several employees who have shown a drop in motivation and productivity. Motivation theories you have learned in PSY 319 can give you insights into reasons for a motivational reduction and means for improving their motivation through incentives.

PSY 590 Tests and Measurements

You are asked to create an employee job satisfaction survey in your workplace. From what you learn in PSY 590, you will know how to develop and distribute a job satisfaction assessment to employees of the organization while staying within ethical boundaries. You will know how to collect and analyze the data received from the employees and will be able to see strengths and weaknesses found in employee satisfaction. From here you can recommend and implement changes based on your findings.

You are asked to review an employee selection test for a business because the test has varying results every time it is given. With your knowledge of reliability and validity from PSY 590, you can conduct appropriate reliability and validity analyses to find out where the problem is.
